Unreal Lawns builds custom backyard putting greens designed for serious golfers, short-game perfectionists, and everyday entertaining. Built standard with our TrueRoll Hybrid PE/PP dual-yarn turf, our greens deliver a practice surface that rolls at true tour speeds without grain bias. Looking for an authentic target green? Add our optional SafeBase 10mm High-Density Shockpad upgrade so incoming chip shots bite and hold like natural turf.
Tour-speed performance, multi-directional ball roll, and custom-engineered play—built for NZ homes and commercial spaces.
The Engine Behind True Ball Roll
Standard putting greens use single-material polypropylene yarns laid over hard gravel bases—causing ball wobble and directional grain bias. TrueRoll Hybrid solves these problems from the fiber up.
-
TrueRoll Hybrid PE/PP Yarn Blend (Standard): Polypropylene (PP) provides firm, upright tension for fast stimp speeds, while Polyethylene (PE) softens the feel and eliminates directional grain drift.
-
Optional SafeBase 10mm High-Density Shockpad Upgrade: For golfers practicing short-game pitch and chip shots, adding a SafeBase shockpad absorbs kinetic energy so incoming balls bite and hold—while keeping a rock-solid, zero-sink stance underfoot for putting.

Putting Green FAQ
Thinking about a backyard putting green or indoor practice space? Here’s what you need to know about turf performance, maintenance, and custom options.
How much maintenance is actually required?
Next to none. A quick brush now and then to clear off leaves or debris is pretty much all it takes. You can completely forget about mowing, watering, fertilising, or rolling the green on your weekends.
How realistic is the ball roll compared to a real green?
It’s as close as you’ll get to a tour course at home. Standard artificial greens use cheap single-yarn plastic that lays down over time, creating a directional “grain” that pulls your ball off line. Our TrueRoll Hybrid turf uses a dual PE/PP yarn matrix that eliminates grain drift completely, so your putt holds a true line at a smooth, consistent stimp speed.
What’s the SafeBase 10mm Shockpad upgrade, and do I need it?
SafeBase is a high-density foam pad we can install directly beneath the turf. If you just want a pure putting green, our standard compacted metal base is spot on. But if you’re planning to pitch or chip onto the green from 10 to 30 metres out, adding the SafeBase pad gives the surface just enough give to make incoming shots bite and hold like natural grass—without making your putting stance feel soft or spongy under foot.
Can I add a fringe around the green for chipping?
Definite yes. We regularly frame putting greens with a longer-pile landscape turf around the edges. It gives you an authentic, multi-cut practice area for chipping and creates a seamless transition into the rest of your garden.
How does the green handle heavy Kiwi rain?
No worries at all. We build every green over a free-draining aggregate metal base designed to shift water fast. Rainfall passes straight through the turf and sub-base into the drainage layer beneath, meaning no surface pooling and a green that’s ready for practice as soon as the weather clears.
Does golf turf work indoors, on decks, or on rooftop terraces?
It sure does. TrueRoll Hybrid can be laid over concrete, timber decking, or internal sub-floors. It’s a great option if you’re building out a garage simulator room, setting up a covered outdoor entertainment area, or upgrading a townhouse patio.
Are your golf greens safe for kids and pets?
100%. All of our turf products are non-toxic, heavy-metal-free, and tough enough to handle kids playing or dogs running across them. Plus, you’re eliminating weedkillers and fertilisers from your yard entirely.
How long does a typical home installation take?
Most residential jobs take about 2 to 4 days from start to finish. That depends a bit on your site access, how much excavation is needed, and how complex you want the contours and breaks to be.
